It's Time to Schedule Your Child's Back-to-School and Sports Physicals

The Department of Pediatrics wants to remind you of the importance of back-to-school and sports physicals. Starting the school year with a clean bill of health sets children up for academic success!

Back-to-school and sports physical appointments are available at MetroHealth’s main campus, Tuesday through Friday. To schedule, call 216-778-2222, or see a full list of our pediatric providers.

Back-to-school physicals are also available at our community health centers.

Pediatric Care During COVID-19

Your child’s health is too important to put off treatment, well child visits or immunizations. We want you to know MetroHealth is a safe place to bring your child for care.

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that families keep their appointments with their pediatrician during the COVID-19 (coronavirus) outbreak.

You should keep up with well child visits. These visits make sure you child is growing as he or she should be. Immunizations protect your child from serious diseases.

You should not put off these visits because of COVID-19. MetroHealth is doing all it can to keep you and your family safe.

Did your child test positive for COVID over 4 weeks ago and continues to struggle with symptoms? Is your child missing school or unable to take part in daily activities? See Post-COVID Clinic for Kids for more information.

How We Keep Your Family Safe

We have taken the following steps at all campuses and health centers to keep you and your family safe:

  • Requiring everyone to wear a mask for the length of their visit. If you don’t have one, we will give one to you
  • Ensuring patients stay a safe distance from each other in waiting rooms and other areas
  • Disinfecting all areas thoroughly and often
  • Limiting visitors
  • Allowing only one adult to accompany each pediatric patient
  • Scheduling in-person visits only when it is the best option for the patient
  • Continuing to use telehealth options whenever possible

Telehealth Visits

Some children don’t need to be seen in person when they are sick. In these cases, we offer telehealth visits by phone or video.

MetroHealth offers telehealth services through MyChart for you to meet with your MetroHealth provider from your phone, computer, or tablet. MyChart telehealth appointments provide easy access to get you the care you need, when you need it, without leaving your home. If you do not have a MyChart account, you can sign up online, or call your MetroHealth provider to set up a telehealth appointment.

How to schedule a telehealth appointment

Routine, ongoing pediatric care is essential for children. Regular checkups are key for everything from maintaining your child's immunization schedule, to tracking growth, to fending off childhood disease.

At MetroHealth, we have a team of dedicated pediatricians ready to work with your family. We're dedicated to improving the health and well-being of infants, toddlers, children and adolescents, and we're a leader in providing expert medical care.

Our Team

Our board-certified pediatricians, specialists and nurse practitioners provide highly skilled and compassionate care for children throughout Cleveland. We're passionate about working with children and families.

Our pediatric primary care services include:

  • Immunizations
  • Management of chronic and long-term diseases
  • Nutrition and exercise services for overweight children
  • Physical exams, including back-to-school physicals
  • Vision and hearing screenings

Your child's pediatrician can refer your child to a pediatric specialist in our system for advanced, state-of-the-art care that you can trust. And that specialist will be in close contact with your child's pediatrician, so nothing will be dropped.

MetroHealth is also proud to be the home of Robert Needlman, MD, an internationally-renowned child development expert and revising author of Dr. Spock's Baby and Child Care. Dr. Needlman specializes in autism, developmental pediatrics and attention deficit disorder—and his knowledge and expertise has proven invaluable to the entire pediatrics staff.

Pediatrics Care When You Need It

Whether your family is dealing with minor childhood illness or injury or something more serious, we offer fast appointments so your little one can start feeling better sooner. You can visit the pediatric MetroExpressCare daytime walk-in clinic, and your child will be seen by a board-certified pediatrician.

After hours, you can take your child to one of our MetroExpressCare after-hours walk-in clinics and get help for your child's minor illnesses and injuries.

MetroHealth also has you covered if your child needs to be admitted to the hospital. From our NICU to our pediatric inpatient unit, family-centered rounds allow the family to stay involved in the care of their child. Our Child Life specialists focus on the children and their families to help them cope with the hospital experience, to minimize the fear and stress of hospitalization.

The bottom line: Your child can get care—no matter what time it is—through MetroHealth.
